You clicked through a cashback portal, bought something, and now you are staring at an empty activity page wondering whether the purchase tracked at all. This is one of the most common frustrations in cashback shopping, and it is usually fixable if you know where to look and how long to wait. The short answer is that most tracked purchases show up within 24 to 48 hours, but some retailers take up to seven days, and travel bookings often do not appear until after the trip is complete.

Understanding the tracking timeline saves a lot of unnecessary worry. When you click from a portal to a retailer, a tracking cookie records that the portal sent you. The retailer then reports the sale back to the portal, which matches it to your account. Each step takes time, and a delay at any stage does not mean the purchase failed. Checking too early and panicking is the most common mistake, so patience is the first part of the process.

Start in your portal account, under the section usually called Activity, Earnings, or Cashback Activity. Look for entries marked as Tracked or Pending. A pending entry means the purchase was recorded and is waiting for the retailer to confirm it, which is normal. It does not mean something went wrong. If you see the correct retailer name, date, and approximate amount, your purchase tracked successfully, and the rest is just waiting for confirmation.

Check the retailer's tracking window before assuming a problem. Most portals list an estimated tracking time on the retailer's page, and it varies widely. Everyday retailers often report within a day or two, while travel, insurance, and high-value purchases can take weeks. If you are still inside that window, there is nothing to fix yet. Make a note of the date you expect it to appear and check again after that date passes.

Several common habits break tracking without the shopper realising it. Shopping in a retailer's mobile app instead of the browser usually does not track, because the app session is separate from the portal click. Clicking another deal link, voucher site, or influencer link for the same retailer after your portal click can overwrite the tracking and send the credit elsewhere. Using a coupon code that the portal did not list can also void cashback at some retailers, as can returning the item or cancelling the order.

Browser settings matter too. If you block third-party cookies, the portal cannot record your visit. Ad blockers and strict privacy extensions sometimes interfere as well. The safest routine is to click through from the portal, stay in the same browser tab, accept cookies on the retailer site, complete the purchase in one sitting, and avoid opening the retailer in a second tab or on another device midway through checkout.

If the tracking window has passed and nothing shows, gather your evidence before contacting support. You will need the retailer name, the order number, the order date, the order total, and a screenshot or copy of the order confirmation email. A screenshot of the confirmation page taken right after checkout is especially useful, since it shows the order details exactly as they appeared.

Then submit a missing cashback claim through the portal, usually found under Support or Report Missing Cashback. Be accurate about what you bought and what code you used, since an incorrect detail can slow the investigation. Missing cashback investigations can take a long time, sometimes up to 120 days, because the portal has to ask the retailer to verify the sale. That wait is frustrating, but a claim with complete evidence has a much better chance than one filed with gaps.

A few habits will prevent most tracking failures. Shop in the browser, not the app, and complete the purchase in one sitting. Take a screenshot of the confirmation page every time, and save the order email until the cashback is confirmed. Keep a simple note of each portal purchase, with the date and the expected tracking window, so you can spot a genuinely missing entry quickly instead of discovering it months later.

Cashback portals work well when the tracking chain stays intact, and most missing entries come from a broken link in that chain rather than a fault in the portal itself. Check the activity page, respect the tracking window, and keep your receipts. When a purchase genuinely goes missing, a well-documented claim is your best route to getting it back.
